retailer-structure.jpgArghand has an Afghan operation and a North America operation that work closely together via email and skype almost daily.

Production takes place in the Cooperative in Afghanistan.

Distribution is spearheaded by the North American team.

Soaps, body oils and silks are hand-crafted in Afghanistan and shipped to  warehouses in La Tuque, Quebec, and Concord, Massachusetts.  From these receiving and shipping centers, products are distributed to an ever-evolving network of retailers across the United States and Canada.

Proceeds from the sale of Arghand products go directly back into the cooperative to cover Afghanistan operating expenses, which include salaries for our Afghan members.  Because Arghand has not yet achieved self-sufficiency, due mostly to production constraints associated with operating in a war zone, the cooperative continues to rely on government contracts, foundation grants and private donations to cover a few modest international salaries and administrative costs. Arghand also relies on public and private donations for capital investments such as equipment, land and construction costs in an ongoing effort to expand without incurring debt.

Several Arghand members grow Kandahar roses on their own land.  Arghand  provided solar irrigation pumps, and now buys the flowers.
